ST. ALBAN, WOOD STREET

City of London

St. Alban, Wood Street, City of London

A medieval church here managed to survive the Great Fire with minor damage. This didn't stop Wren completely rebuilding it between 1682 and 1687. The tower, which is all that survives today, was also Wren's and was added around 1697. George Gilbert Scott heavily renovated the church around 1858 but all but the tower was destroyed by a bomb in the Blitz.
