Avebury Church, Wiltshire

Avebury is, of course, much better known for its eerie and astonishing Stone Circle. The church is actually a very old one, dating to around 1000 AD. It is dedicated to St. James.

The Normans greatly altered the church and amendments continued over the next few hundred years before the inevitable Victorian renovations in the mid-19th Century. The lychgate dates to 1899.
