Cottered Church, Hertfordshire

The pretty church of St. John the Baptist in Cottered dates mainly from the 14th Century when it started out life as St. Mary’s. Opposite the main door is the church’s great treasure – a medieval mural of St. Christopher dating to around 1500.

Much work was done in the 18th Century when both the font and the spire were installed. Anthony Trollope’s grandfather was rector here. A new window was added in 2000 at the west end of the church depicting the first two thousand years of Christianity.
