Great Hormead Church, Hertfordshire

Like so many of Hertfordshire’s country churches, St. Nicholas starts life around 1200. The nave being the oldest part of the structure. This was enlarged in the 14th Century and at the end of that Century the tower was added with the final storey being put in place early in the 15th Century.

All of this was in a terrible state by the mid-19th Century and the Victorians undertook a massive rebuild that almost created an entirely new church.
