Mount St. Bernard Abbey, Leicestershire

Cistercian Monks

Mount St. Bernard is another of the few functioning modern Monasteries in England. It was founded at the turn of the 19th/20th century by the Cistercian Order who still occupy the Abbey today.  The interior is spacious and attractive, but it is the gardens which make this Abbey particularly notable.  They are called "Calgary Gardens" and range up an artificial hillock next to the Abbey with various religious sculptures terminating in a large wooden cross.

Superb views are available from the gardens, particularly of the Abbey buildings.
