Armenia is one of the three countries of the Caucusus area on the border between Europe and Asia.
For many years Armenia was part of the Soviet Union and the early years of post-Soviet independence were hard, but the country is now more stable and modernisation continues apace.
Armenia is very proud of the fact that it was the first country in the World to adopt Christianity as its state religion - this is reflected in some of its ancient church architecture. Armenia is also the home of Mount Ararat where Noah's Ark came to rest.
The capital city is Yerevan, one of Europe's least known capitals but one which is slowly becoming better known as Amenia begins to emerge from a degree of obscurity.
