Picture Eighty-Three

In The Trenches Of The Somme

Andrew in the World War I trenches at Beaumont-Hamel in the Somme on 3rd September 2000. Andrew has long since been interested in the First World War (see his stories Mud and Water and The Vampire Of Thiepval) so a trip to the Somme was of great interest to him.

He only had time for an afternoon tour, but it took in the trenches at Beaumont-Hamel (the monument to the Newfoundland Regiment is in the background), the Monument to the Missing at Thiepval and several other sites.  To read all about his trip see Travel Pages, France.

This picture was taken by his tour guide, David.
