Georgia is one of the three countries of the Caucusus area on the border between Europe and Asia.
For many years Georgia was part of the Soviet Union and it still has a fractious and difficult relationship with modern day Russia. Of the three Caucusus countries Georgia is the one that looks most towards Europe and because of its relationship with Russia it is keenest to make close ties with the European Union countries.
The landscape of Georgia is massively varied with its Black Sea coast only a few miles from mountainous areas inland. The capital city is Tblisi which is a fast-growing and increasingly visited city.
