AJACCIO CATHEDRAL

Corsica, France

Ajaccio Cathedral, Corsica, France

The pastel shaded Cathedral of Ajaccio – dedicated to Notre Dame de l’Assomption – dates to 1577 and was completed in 1593.

It’s claim to fame – like everything else in Ajaccio – is it’s Napoleon connections. Bonaparte was baptised here in July 1771 and would have worshipped here during his childhood and early adult life.

Otherwise it is merely a rather handsome church in a rather handsome city.
