Strictly speaking Greenland is still a sovereign part of Denmark, however, it now enjoys considerable autonomy and operates as a country in all but name.

The great frozen land is part of continental North America, but politically firmly entrenched in Europe. Much of the landscape is inaccessible ice, but enough settlements cluster around the southern coasts to give Greenland a sizeable population, although for its size it is one of the least populated places on planet Earth.

The capital, Nuuk, is hardly one of the great metropolises of the world, but the astonishing landscape of this amazing place makes it an amazing destination.
