VAJDAHUNYAD CASTLE

Although it looks, for all the world, like a genuine late medieaval Castle, Vajdahunyad is actually a complete fake, built initially from cardboard and wood for the Millennial Exhibition of 1896 in City Park on the Pest side of Budapest.
It proved to be very popular, so the decision was made to rebuilt in wood and the same architect, Ignác Alpár, was employed to oversee the reconstruction. The Castle is largely a copy of a Romanian Castle, Hunyad Castle in Hunedoara, although it has its own special touches.
In the grounds is the Anonymous statue – if you touch this writer’s pen you are supposed to get good luck. Also in the grounds is a statue of actor Bela Lugosi.
The Castle today is an agricultural museum.
