"EASTERN" EUROPE
We have
split Europe into "West" and "East" because, predictably enough,
it is the continent we have visited most frequently. Of
course, these
days the distinction between "East" and "West" is even more spurious
than
it ever was. For our purposes we have drawn a line down the
western
side of Slovenia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland and the
border
between Russia and Finland, thus including Scandinavia in
Western
Europe, where it should be.
Therefore,
against normal convention, we have placed Greece and Cyprus here in
Eastern
Europe - which is where they geographically belong. The three Caucusus
countries of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan are also included within
Eastern Europe.
